{Wednesday Hodgepodge} I've Got Nothing for the Title

From this Side of the Pond

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Has your April been filled with showers? Do you carry an umbrella, wear a slicker, or make a run for it? Besides rain, what else has filled your April?
Boy, has it ever! We had a "flood day" on Monday...too many flooded & blocked roads. We're in the middle of our state testing, so I'm sure the superintendent felt it was better to have everyone miss a day of testing than to try to get in all of the make-ups from those students who couldn't make it to school.
I usually make a run for it. Unless I actually remember my umbrella, which stays in my car.
Easter activities filled up the better part of my April, as well as helping to clear out my parents' house.

2. What's something you could you give a 30-minute presentation on at a moment's notice and with zero preparation?
I would say it would have to do with being an SLP in the schools.

3. Share with us a favorite food memory from childhood.
I don't know if it's a favorite, but it seems like we had roast a lot.

4. What's a song you thought you knew the lyrics to, but later discovered you were wrong?
I always thought he was singing "Do it like a lady"!

5. According to one travel website, the most overrated tourist attractions in America are-
Niagara Falls (NY), Hollywood Walk of Fame (California), Times Square (NYC), Epcot (FL), Seattle Space Needle (WA), and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market (Boston). How many of these have you seen in person? Did you feel like a tourist? Did you care? Tell us about a place (not on the list) you've visited that might be considered a tourist trap, but you love it anyway.
I've been to Times Square and Epcot. Of course I felt like a tourist: at Times Square I was with a high school band!
Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's free, so I don't know if it could technically be called a "tourist trap". It's my most favorite place in the mountains.

6. Your signature clothing item?
Jeans & t-shirts?  😁
I'm definitely not a fashionista!

7. What's an experience you've had you think everyone should experience at least once? Why?
Visiting a foreign country. It gives you a deeper appreciation of being an American and living in the greatest country on earth.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
The weirdest thing happened on Monday: I saw an armored sheriff's vehicle with sirens on. I saw it again just a bit later. This was after a police car when through an intersection with its lights & siren on. As I drove back from the vet, I saw a lot of police cars in a gas station parking lot, searching a car. I'm wondering if they thought there were explosives, but then realized there weren't. I didn't see anything in the paper about it this morning. Weird...just weird.

I'm linking up with Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. Go check it out!

  3. I loved the clip of Mrs. Doubtfire, and it does sound like "do it like a lady" :)
Your Monday experience was a strange one. Our local paper chooses not to report some stories, maybe yours does, too...

  4. Hmm...wonder if you happened upon a drug bust or something? Interesting. I agree...Cades Cove is such a beautiful place to visit! I really need to get back to that area SOON!

  5. Loved the Mrs. Doubtfire clip. One of my favorite movies and I too thought it was Do it like a lady. I am not a fashionista either...jeans and t-shirts suit me fine. Hold on...the end of the school year is coming.

  6. You're like me. I usually forget the umbrella in the car.

  7. There have been several mentions here on today's Hodgepodge about the Great Smoky Mountains area. Another one to add to our list of Places to Visit!

  8. I'm with Vee. That is exactly what I thought he was saying as well. You must correct us! Yes, your random experience does fit into the "I need more facts, please" category.

  9. Cades Cove is a favorite here too : ) I think Gatlinburg is a little less crazy than Pigeon Forge but both are definitely marketing to the tourists who flock in. I tell people to stay in a cabin on the Townsend side and just make a day trip in to play skeeball : )

  10. Haha on those lyrics. Isn't that funny! I definitely think that everyone should visit a foreign country - and I'd add to visit a third-world country - to see how most of the world lives. Enjoyed your Hodgepodge!

  11. Our schools are in the midst of that dreaded testing. Teacher daughter was telling me that all first grade at her school have to MAP test on iPads. Not all students have access to iPads. I cannot for the life of me figure out why they chose first graders with zero iPad experience to do this. Two teachers whose students always meet their goals at the very least had horrid results. This was a stupid decision. You have to be a Title 1 school in our county to have iPads for each student in your school so some of our students don't have a clue about them unless they've used them at home. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Yikes! That was a soapbox, wasn't it? Sorry! LOL Ok, one more thing- I would never have made first graders do this if I were still there in charge of testing. There are so many songs I get wrong but, sometimes I like my lyrics better. LOL

  12. This was a fun Hodgepodge. I enjoyed reading your answers! When I see a bad accident or police cars speeding toward something, I always look in the paper the next day to see what it was about and it is rarely there. Makes me want a police scanner but I would probably get more hooked than I am on social media! Ha!

  13. I thought he sang the same thing! lol

And yes, I agree about seeing a foreign country. It really does make you appreciate the USA.
