Yep, that's right: I shaved my legs! I know y'all are so happy to know that! I called the pedi place to see if I needed to get an appointment, and he said they were there, so I could come as soon as I could get there. I had the whole place to myself! I guess people aren't wanting to get out still. One of my coworkers said that her son was going to his first day of class for the semester, but didn't make it out of the subdivision. And, she doesn't even live in the mountainous part of the county.
Here's what my front yard looked like today when I looked out of the living room window:
The snow has been on the ground for 3 days. In Southern talk, that means we're going to get it again.
When we had the Christmas tree up for a few days, I looked at the ornaments and realized that we were missing some of the boys' ornaments that had been given to them, mostly by CH's parents. I went downstairs and looked through the endless sea of tubs we have, but they weren't there. I looked in the cabinets in the man cave; they weren't there either. We decided that either they had accidentally been thrown away, or would eventually show up. Before OS went back to college, he cleaned out a closet in the man cave. Guess what he found? They were in a box, along with a very sticky candy cane. One of MS' ornaments had broken, but I just super-glued that baby back together, and it was as good as new. And, as an added bonus, CH found a clothes hamper that had 4 pairs of my shoes in it! I cleaned them off, and they're ready to go! It's perfect, because a couple of pairs are black and one pair is brown, and I wanted to get some more black and brown shoes that aren't slip-on. PERFECT! And, they still fit! Maybe with the money I just saved, CH can get a surprise for me!
And, just to totally and completely randomize this post, here's a commercial that cracks me up:
This is one of my favorite memes that I've seen! Every Sunday night, Java posts 5 questions for you to answer so that your readers can get to know you a little better. Here are this week's questions:
1. What is your favorite dessert?
I don't have a favorite! Any dessert is fine by me. The whole reason for eating dinner is to eat dessert! Although, I did have a roommate who insisted on eating dessert first to make sure she'd have room for it!
2. What do you wear to bed?
I wear pajama bottoms and a camisole type shirt. With this stage in my life, the bottoms come off during the night quite often! TMI? Probably!
3. Do you get regular manicures/pedicures?
I just had my first pedi at the beginning of the summer. I'm really ticklish, but the girl managed to do a really good job of not getting kicked in the face! I enjoyed it...gonna have to do it again soon!
I've never had a mani...I just don't have any use for fingernails!
4. Did you play any sports in high school?
I played tennis all through high school. I tried to play basketball my senior year, but that was right after the girls in our state began playing whole court and I just wasn't in shape! That, and my hard contacts kept slipping off of my eye every time I tried to look sideways.
5. Do you have an iPod?
A what? What's an iPod? No, obviously I don't have one. OS told me I need to get one, you know, one of the most expensive ones they have on the market. I just don't see the need in getting one. I suppose if I was a runner I would use it, but I'm not, so I guess I don't need it!
Now the fun: Go to Never Growing Old and link your post up, then visit to see how other people you know (or don't know!) responded.
This weekend, I finally weeded (well, kind of) a little strip of "garden" between our back sidewalk and house:
Can you see the little hosta? I had completely forgotten it was there: it's usually hidden by weeds plants. I didn't get all of the weeds; I figured I could hit the rest with weed killer and take care of it.
This weekend, I was finally going to plant some bulbs since we shouldn't have any more frosty mornings. But, when I looked at a couple of places in the front yard where I wanted to plant them, I noticed there are a lot of weeds poking up through the ground. So, I started to weed, but then laziness came over me and I wondered, "Why am I trying to pull up all of these little weeds? Isn't that why we have weed killer?" Unfortunately, we're out. I started to buy some at the Wally World, but then realized that weed killer is considered an "outside" thing, and I'm not responsible for those. My husband can buy it!
As I was "weeding", I found this surprise:
In that area of our front yard, under the big Hickory Tree, my husband planted azaleas. Now, before you look at the picture, I need to tell you something about him. Charlie Brown Trees. Does anything else need to be said? We would have a Charlie Brown Tree every Christmas if: 1) I hadn't put my foot down when the boys were little, and, 2) we didn't finally give in and get an artificial tree about 6 years ago. So...last year (I think it was) we bought these little azaleas. I think he likes to watch the plants grow. Me? I'm into immediate gratification! Anyway, here are our little azaleas:
Here is our biggest one:
And our smallest one:
I had to check and make sure the bloom was actually attached to something, and wasn't just a bloom that had come off of another plant! Maybe someday they'll grow up into our neighbor's azaleas:
I had another surprise on my little field trip in the front yard. My husband bought this little tree (or plant) a few years ago. We weren't sure it was going to make it, and every winter it loses it's leaves, so we're never sure if it's going to live or not. In the winter it looks like a big stick someone stuck in the ground. I was really surprised when I saw the blooms on it. I had no idea it was suppose to do that!
This weekend I finally got my princess to the "beauty parlor". We laugh when she gets this furry because we think she looks like a miniature sheepdog:
I finally got her to halfway cooperate so I could take an "after" picture. She is afraid of the camera. I don't know if it's the noise or the flash, or what. I call her my little "chicken dog": She's afraid of everything.
You'd never know it by the way she looks in that picture, but she loves to go to the "beauty parlor" and get beautiful. Now, if you ask her if she wants a bath, she'll put her ears back and trot out of the room! Of course, she may like going to the beauty parlor because she can finally get away from her little sister.
YS' high school band banquet is coming up. Every year they have an "End of Year Presentation" which is really a slideshow. Since I went to band camp with them (it really was fun, y'all!), I have some pictures from the beginning of the year. The only problem with copying them to a cd is that the cd drive in my pc is not functioning. I think a virus I had earlier this year did it in. I went ahead and bought a few blank cds, thinking I'd just transfer them from the thumb drive to a cd via my husband's laptop. Apparently his laptop takes DVR, not CDs. But, a miracle happened! Sunday morning I thought I'd give it one more try on my pc, and the drive actually worked! Hallelujah! The pictures (including a short video of the band director during camp) are finally on the cd, ready to be handed off to the student who is doing the presentation. Here's a sneak peak of the video:
And, last but not least, I finally sucked it up and had my first pedicure. Talk about heaven! I'm extremely ticklish, so after at least a month of polling everybody from grandmas to teenagers, I went and had one. The girl kept me talking so I wouldn't kick her in the face when she touched the arches of my feet, so it wasn't bad at all. I have a feeling it won't be my last!
Oh, how I long for long, skinny feet and toes on which to wear toe rings, but, it wasn't in the cards for me. My oldest sister said one of her previous doctors called them "peasant feet": Made for working, not being beautiful. *sigh* Story of my life. But, somebody's gotta do it, right?
Last Thursday, one of the teachers I work with brought me one of these t-shirts (I had forgotten that I ordered it!):
Apparently there have been "Skunkape" sightings not too far from here. He said that the Travel Channel contacted him; they're doing some episodes on Skunkapes. (Of course, he may have been kidding...I'm soooo gullible!) What? You don't know what a Skunkape is? Well, you'll have to go to the website to find out!
Sunday night marked the beginning of the end for MS: Baccalaureate. He said he didn't want to go, but I told him he had to; it was one of the last times he'd be with his Senior Class, and it's a rite of graduation. By Sunday afternoon, he said he wanted to go. I think he's ready to graduate and get on with his life. And I think that's a good thing!
