Heading Into the Holidays With the Wednesday Medley

It's just like the Wednesday Hodgepodge, but with a new name and a new hostess with the mostess! Much thanks to Terri for continuing our Wednesday Q&A...I'm looking forward to being reacquainted with old friends and meeting new ones!

1.  On November 28th, 1995, President Bill Clinton ended the 55 MPH nationwide speed limit that began in 1974 as an energy saving measure during the Mid-East oil embargo.  If you are old enough to remember this (I sure am) did it make you happy?  Do you have a heavy foot when driving or does 55 MPH sound good to you?

Oh, I was ecstatic! I do have a bit of a lead foot.

2.  You are home alone on a rainy/snowy Sunday afternoon.  What Christmas movie will you watch?

The same Christmas movies I always watch...even in July: The Holiday and/or Family Stone.

3.  What is something you have tried that you will never try again?

Skiing. I tried it when I was a junior in high school on a school trip to Minnesota, and I honestly didn’t care for the feeling of not having control. I really wanted to like it; it’s a really cool sport.

4.  Today is National French Toast Day!!  Will you have some?  Do you like French Toast?

How did I not know this? We love French Toast at my house, but I won’t have any today. CH & I like to fix it for breakfast when we’re camping. Instead of adding milk we add a splash of flavored creamer for a little extra oomph.

5.  The Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center will be lighted today, as will the one at the White House in Washington, D.C.  Do you have your tree up and is it lighted?  Have you ever been in New York City or Washington, D.C. to see the trees all lit up during the holidays?

My tree isn't up yet. I usually wait until mid-December to put it up since I keep it up until Epiphany. I bought a pre-lit tree last year and it was absolutely wonderful! Stress-free, for sure!

I was in NYC a long time ago over Thanksgiving weekend when the high school band I was the guard instructor for marched in the Macy’s Parade & I got to see the tree in Rockefeller.

We spent a couple of Thanksgiving weekends in DC when my BIL & SIL lived there.

It was a bit chilly that day!

6.  Tell us something random about this week of yours.

Last week I managed to clean my entire house, dust bunnies under the bed and all. The only thing I didn’t do was clean the windows. Doesn’t a clean house feel great?

I feel very accomplished with this:

 

 

I feel refocused on what’s really important in my life just by rearranging and cleaning this room.

Randomly Hodgepodging

1. What's your favorite time of day? Why?
Now that the boys are gone (or almost gone), I really enjoy the late afternoon. The time of day when I'm at the house by myself.
In the summer, I would say early morning. Especially this past summer, when I walked every morning at 6:00. (Yep, that's a.m.)

2. Waffle iron, toaster, coffee maker, mixer, blender...which small appliance would you say most needs replacing in your house? 
I noticed my blender has a crack in it, so I would say that. It doesn't get much use, though.

3. It's National Grouch Day (October 15)...what's something that makes you feel grouchy?
Not getting enough sleep.

4. Ever been to Canada? Is that a country you'd like to visit? According to Trip Advisor, the top ten best destinations in Canada are-Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Victoria, Calgary, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls, Whistler, and Halifax. Which city would you most like to see?
I've never been, but want to go. Any of those places would be wonderful to go to, so I don't have a preference!

5. What was your favorite food (or one of your favorites) when you were a child? Is that still a favorite?
Chocolate. Yes, it still is!

6. Do you cry easily?
I used to when I was younger, but now...not so much. Unless it's some stupid commercial or something very sentimental. Then the waterworks come on.

7. Have you started your (gasp!) Christmas shopping? If so when, and how much? If not, when will you even begin thinking about it?
The only thing I've bought so far is a little something for my SIL. I suppose I'll start thinking about right around Thanksgiving.

Wednesday Hodgepodge: The Initiation

Joyce has taken the initiative to pick up where the Random Dozen has left off...kind of!  Isn't her button just absolutely beautiful?  Her Daughter1 made it for her!  This is the first edition of Wednesday Hodgepodge:  7 questions to answer with the opportunity to add your own random item.  I ♥ this idea! 

1. Do you think you're more like your mom or your dad?

Definitely my mom.  Sometimes I think I'm so much like my mom that it's scary.

2. Do you like roller coasters?

No.  I can tolerate the older ones, but don't put me on one where your feet dangle down.  We used to live near Carowinds, and they had a new Rugrats ride.  (A kiddie ride, okay?)  You had a harness and your feet dangled down.  Nothing major; you got on and rode around some turns.  People on the ground had super water guns so they could shoot you with the water.  When you had on a bathing suit, you slid around in the seat.  I didn't like it...Not. One. Bit.

3. How did you name your blog and do you now wish you'd thought about it maybe another five minutes before you hit publish? Would you change your blog title if it were not a huge pain in the derriere? (French makes everything sound a little nicer doesn't it?)

I thought about it for all of about 1 day.  I live in a small town, but, to be perfectly honest, it doesn't feel like it's as small as it is (around 8000 people) because there's a bigger town attached to it.  If I had to do it over, I probably would name it something else, but I have no idea what I would call it.

4. What is the best wedding gift you received? Not married? Didn't get any gifts? Then what is the best wedding gift you've given?

We were given a set of silverware from CH's Danish grandmother, his mor mor.  We only use it for special dinners:  Christmas and Easter, mostly.

5. What is the one bill you most hate to pay?

LOL!  Now that's funny!

6. Is the glass half full or half empty?

(Yes, I'm avoiding the question.)

7. What is your favorite word? Okay okay. Calm down. How about one of your favorite words?

I don't know that I have any favorite words.  Payday, maybe?  

8.  Now, this is where you insert one random thought of your own...maybe something that struck you as funny, something that recently had you scratching your head in confusion, something that annoyed you a teensy bit, something on your to do list, something you are looking forward to, whatever. As long as it is in keeping with the friendly tone we've all come to know and love on Wednesdays then we're good. Don't make me get out my wooden spoon.
