Nothing Too Deep

Java from Never Growing Old has decided to take a break, so there won't be a "Meet Me on Monday" today.  : (  So, let's catch up on some tv and not get into any big, deep topics,  shall we?

I haven't been watching much trash tv lately.  I forget to watch American Idol when it's on, but when I do, I really, really like the chemistry between the judges this season.  I didn't watch last season; even though I love Ellen, I just didn't think she was a good choice since she wasn't a singer.  I'm not a big Steven Tyler fan, but I'm liking how he seems to have such a big heart and will belt out some notes here & there.  JLo is just really sweet, but she's all business when she needs to be. Randy is the big dawg, for sure!
I completely missed the whole "Real Housewives of Atlanta" this season, too.  I caught some episodes here and there on weekends.  NeNe is still my favorite.  I think I could hang out with her, as long as I didn't make her mad!  Did anybody watch the "Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills"?  I wasn't going to watch, but did see it when they had the "marathon" on.  Kim Richards is really flaky.  And Camille...I agree with Kyle on this one:  she is delusional.  Taylor really needs to consider getting that lip implant removed.
This isn't what I consider "trash tv", but has anybody seen "Harry's Law"?  It's the new show with Kathy Bates as an attorney.  If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching.  The only thing is that it comes on Mondays at 10:00, so I usually fall asleep halfway through it.
Another good new show is "Off the Map", but I can't ever remember when it comes on.  One of the actors played on 'Friday Night Lights' as Matt Serecen.   It comes on Wednesdays, but again, it's at 10:00.  Why is it the good shows come on that late?
Have you watched any new shows lately that are worth watching?

The New & the Old

Here we are again:  This week starts the new tv season.  I've waited with great anticipation to see what's going to happen on NCIS.  That show just gets better & better.
I actually think I'm going to watch Dancing With the Stars this season.  I'm going to be really surprised if Jennifer Grey doesn't win, you know, with her dancing background and all.  David Hasselhoff is just creepy now that he's gotten older; Margaret Cho will at least make us laugh, I'm sure.  Michael Bolton & "The Situation":  2 more creepy guys.
The Event:  I'll have to watch just to see what event it is.  I have a feeling it's going to be a bit like "Lost":  I don't think I'll get it.  If you've never seen Castle, it's definitely worth a look.  The only bad thing:  it's on at 10:00 here.  Also worth a look:  Rules of Engagement.  Patrick Warburton's dry sense of humor just cracks me up!
Grey's Anatomy & Private Practice hopefully start back up this week.  I'm in a panic because I can't remember how the season ended last time!  I guess I'm going to have to go back and watch the last episodes online so I don't have to think too much when it comes on! Big Bang Theory has moved to Thursday nights:  If you haven't ever seen this show, it's time to get on board!  (Bazinga!)

The Apprentice starts back up this season with people who have been hit hard by the recession by losing their jobs..
And, on top of all that, Real Housewives of DC is still on, although I'm not real hyped up on this one.  They have a new Real Housewives of Beverly Hills that's suppose to start in a few weeks,  but I'm not sure I'm going to be real thrilled about that one, either.  Kelsey Grammar's ex-wife is one of the cast members, along with Kim Richards.  Kim was a child star who was in Nanny and the Professor  and Escape to Witch Mountain.  One of her sisters is Paris Hilton's mother.  Her other sister will join her on the show as another cast member.  Hmmmm...some actresses on a "reality show".  How much will it be "real"?  RH of Atlanta starts in a couple of weeks:  I have to say that NeNe is my favorite on that show.  Even though she seems to pick fights, when she's getting along with somebody, she seems like she'd be a lot of fun to hang out with.  I'm not sure what's happened to Lisa; they have 2 new housewives in the cast this season, and Lisa was the one with her head on straight.
Sidenote:  I had to laugh during the UT game on Saturday when the quarterback was being talked about.  Turns out his mom could be a Real Housewife of NJ:  he's from the town that some of the Housewives are from or live close to.  Think they'll call her?

So, what show(s) will you be watching this fall?

Meet Me on Monday

Time to join Java for Meet Me on Monday!  Even though we seem to know each other pretty well, there are some things that I'm sure y'all are dying to know about me!  Java gives us the chance to really get to know each other!  Here are this week's questions:

1. Do you watch any Soap Operas?
Uh, no, but aren't the Real Housewives a form of Soap Operas?  When I was in college, a bunch of us would watch "The Guiding Light" in the common room.  I know I'm dating myself, but that was right at the beginning of cable, and very few people  had their own tv in their rooms.  Even if they had a tv, we'd all gather for the viewing!

2. What appliance is used the most in your house?
The refrigerator.  It runs all the time,  right?  (ha,ha!)

3. Do you wear make-up every day?
No.  During the summer, I only put it on if I'm going out, and even then I'm sporadic.  If I don't have any plans on Saturdays during the school year, I won't wear any.  So, if you plan on just stopping by the house without letting me know, do it at your own risk!

4. What is your worst pet-peeve?
Where do I begin?  I have to pick just one?  I've talked about slow drivers in the left lane before.  Then there's the "not putting your turn signal on", not being able to drive due to talking on the cell phone (if you can't do both, don't do either!), and my kids not cleaning off the ice cream scoop after they use it.  That should just about cover it!

5. What is your favorite lunch meat?
Turkey.  I'll eat ham if it's all we've got, but turkey would have to be my favorite.

Okay, y'all know what to do:  visit Java, answer the questions, and link up.  Yes, it's that easy!

Weekend Snapshot

*I have to start with this:
I attended my 30th class reunion on Saturday night.  We had a good turnout:  a little over half of the class was there!  It was absolutely wonderful to see a lot of people I haven't seen since we graduated.  Even our FES (Foreign Exchange Student) from Sri Lanka came; he's living in Canada now, but he made it down!  Here's a picture of me & a childhood friend:
I've known her ever since I can remember.  Her family lived up the street from us, and we were always back and forth between houses when we were little.  We fought like sisters, but always managed to make up.  We went to parochial school together in 1st grade and then started public school together.  I think I kind of tagged along with her at first; she was a lot more "worldly" than I.  I had stayed at home with my mom until 1st grade; both of her parents worked, and she went to Kindergarten, so she knew how to survive alone!  Toward the end of elementary school, we started to go our separate ways.  It was so good to see her again!  We picked up right where we left off!

* Husband had a nice, quiet Father's Day yesterday.  We watched some World Cup, saw a movie, and then went out to dinner.  He had already gotten his present 2 weeks ago (remember we thought the 6th was Father's day?), but he did get a phone call from Oldest Son.

* We saw "The A-Team" yesterday.  Being in a house with all boys, I have to bear through am lucky enough to have the opportunity to see a lot of action movies.  Some I like, some...not so much.  In the early days of our marriage, Husband and I were big fans of the A-Team when it was on tv.  We liked it so much that we named one of our dogs Murdock, for the crazy character who was the pilot.  (Murdock the dog went to live with my sister.  We lived in an apartment and he was chewing everything up.  He lived a happy life with her and her family and was very much loved.)  I really enjoyed the movie...there was action, but there were a lot of funny lines.  I loved Liam Neeson as Hannibal, and Bradley Cooper as Face.  Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as "BA" was a very nice replacement for Mr. T; he's a much better actor, for sure!  And, Murdock:  Sharlto Copley.  There were times when he was on screen I could've sworn he was the original actor, Dwight Schultz.  No nudity, some cussing, but it wasn't every other word, and it wasn't put in just for the sake of doing it.  A lot of things blowing up, a lot of action...perfect Father's Day movie!

*  Army Wives:  I could've sworn when I watched it on 23 May they said it was the season finale.  (Guess it's kind of like the Father's Day mix up, huh?!)  But, I realized yesterday that they are still running new shows.  Thank goodness for all of the episodes being online! I got caught up and watched the new episode last night.  I watched "The Next Food Network Star" (Bye-Bye Dzintra...in my opinion you were there a week too long!)and played "Catch-up" with Army Wives during the commercials.   Then, when the "real" episode came on, I watched it, while watching last week's episode during commercials.  And now I'm all caught up!  WHEW!

All in all, we had a pretty relaxing weekend.  I'm looking forward to a wonderful week!

Rambling on a Saturday

I put a new ticker above the postings.  Why?  I'm hoping it will help me be accountable for what I'm eating.  In my mind, if I can see that every day, I'll want that person on the other side of the ticker.  I'm visual that way!
About 11 years ago, I lost 50  pounds.  I had an awesome dietitian whom I loved and wanted to make happy.  She taught me what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat it.  Those pounds just came right off.  Since we moved home, I've gained about 27 pounds back, and it scares me.  It's not healthy, especially when diabetes runs in the family.  Remember my grumpy post about being tired?  That was the beginning of my deciding to take ownership and do something about it.  I considered going to Weight Watchers, but my dietitian gave me the tools to do it on my own:  I didn't want to spend money doing it when I knew exactly what to do.  I had to be accountable for my actions.   I'm thinking 5 pounds so far isn't too shabby, considering that it is the end of the school year, which means eating out.  Mr. Principal offered me a candy bar the other day, and I politely told him no.  He went through what kind he had; after each kind I told him "no".  I finally looked at him and said, "I said I don't want it!"  (I was smiling when I said it, so I wasn't rude!) I did end up taking one and giving it to MS.  That is a major milestone for me.  I have an incredible sweet tooth and have a very hard time turning away sweets.

Question:  When is it our responsibility as an adult & parent  to let a child who is not yours know he has done something inappropriate?
Thursday night at the soccer game, a student yelled out "Ref, you suck!"  (sorry, that's what he said)  His parents weren't there (I've never met his parents, and this is a student who was in the band this year), and I didn't notice any faculty sitting near him. I was sitting about 5 people down from him.  So, I turned, said his name, and told him not to do that and that it wasn't appropriate.  The student told MS after the game that I had "yelled at him."  No, I didn't yell, I just let him know that I didn't appreciate it.  MS said that I shouldn't have done that, but I told him that it was a reflection on the school and the whole community.  This student is also the student that let the f-bomb fly in the pool at band camp...at a Christian college.  This kid can be the most respectful, polite person in the world, but he can also be the most disrespectful, talking-back, "the rules don't apply to me" kind of kid.  I don't trust him one bit.  YS is not allowed to be in the car when he's driving.  In our state, when you first get your driving license, you are only allowed to have 1 other person in the car, unless they are siblings.  There have been a number of times when this kid has broken this law.  This is just one instance of him breaking the rules.  I fully expect a phone call from his parents, but I'm ready. I'm going to tell them that I'm sorry they weren't there to let him know how inappropriate that was...but he probably wouldn't have said it if they had been there (which, like I said...I've never met them).  That's the thing about the community where we live:  you look out after other kids.  I would fully expect another parent to correct my son if he said/did something that was inappropriate.  What's your take on the situation?

I enjoyed yesterday afternoon with a nap and "trash tv":  The Real Housewives of New Jersey.   Love, love, love to watch and see what's going to happen next with crazy Danielle and hilarious Teresa!  (Don't judge...it was either that or clean the kitchen!)

Y'all have a good weekend!  See you back here on Monday!
