Wednesday "Waff"

Wednesday "Waff":  The title is a little bit of "speech" humor.  Kids often substitute a "w" for an "l", so instead of "laugh", I wrote "waff".  I was going to spell it "waugh", but, when we lived in Georgia there was a "Waugh Street", only it was pronounced "Wah".  There is the background for the title.  I've been holding onto e-mails I've received just in case I needed  wanted to use them in posts.  And, since Linda is taking a break from the Random Dozen and I've got nothing (since all I did yesterday was watch The Tudors and spend some time with MS), here's the first installment:

Why childrens' homework should be checked before it's turned in....

A first grade girl handed in the drawing below for her homework assignment.

The teacher graded it and the child brought it home.
She returned to school the next day with the following note:

Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be perfectly clear on my child's homework illustration. It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint surrounded by male customers with money.
I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter how much money we made in the recent snowstorm. This drawing is of me selling a shovel.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Harrington

Unfortunately, I don't know who to credit with the e-mail, so if anyone knows the author, let me know.
And, on the subject of not knowing who to give credit for their writing, remember the post "How to Awaken a Teenager"?  The author ran across my post and let me know it is her work!  The author of that post is Laurie at Manic Motherhood.  Go visit her!  You'll be glad you did!

My Day Off

The Tudors Season 4 DVDs are on the entertainment center, ready to be watched.  I knew if I sat down, I'd be enthralled and nothing would get done.  So, I tried to be disciplined and do things around the house.  My desk went from this:
To this:
Because CH bought me this little gem:
Isn't he a sweetheart?  :D

So, after I got the desk cleaned up, I had to clean the floors.  And the kitchen.  Then the living room.  And then the bathroom.  Plus dusting.  And all this while washing clothes.  What a day off!  The good thing is, I have another day off tomorrow because of Election Day, so that's the day I'll get some Tudor-watching in!

Saturday we hosted a band competition.  We had 25 bands attending, and at least 2 of these bands had around 250 members in them...each.  Our high school only has a little over 500 students, so of course our stadium isn't very big.  My biggest worry was that we wouldn't be able to fit everybody in.  It should've been that I would be able to get out of the concession stand.  For some reason, the door wouldn't open, so we were trapped.  The good thing was that we were incredibly busy, so we didn't have a chance to leave.  The kids that worked ended up crawling through the window. I texted the booster president and told him that we were stuck.  He must've thought I was joking, because I didn't get a response from him.  So, I called him.  He came up, crawled through the window, and tried to get out.  He couldn't, so he decided to crawl back through and try to get the policeman's help.  I have no idea how long they worked on the door, but they ended up having to take the whole doorknob off of the door.    Supposedly that was the worst thing that happened all night, so the festival must have been a success!  Yesterday was a recuperation day.  Every part of my body hurt Saturday night.  We were so busy that I only had time to eat 1 piece of pizza all day long.  Hopefully we made a lot of money for our kids!

Meet Me on Monday: 20th Edition

According to Java:

"Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read and yet most of the time I find myself sitting and wondering, "who is this person!?"  I know them...but yet I don't know them!  I want to know who the person is behind all those words so I thought of a great way for all of us to "meet" each other!

Every Sunday I will post five get to know you questions that you can copy and paste into your own Monday post and we can all learn a little more about each and every one of us!!

"Its a great way to to meet new friends and for others to get to know me better....one Monday at a time!!!"....as quoted by the Chacogirl!! I will make this SIMPLE and FUN!!"

This week's questions:

1.  Have you ever been on a cruise?
No.  We've been talking about it, but haven't done it yet.
2.  What is your favorite way to eat eggs?
Scrambled.  Most definitely.
3.  What is your favorite reading material?
Books, although blogs are closing in quickly!
4.  Name all the pets that you have ever had?
Growing up we had a dog, Socks, but he was hit by a car in front of the house where I live now.  (I actually just realized that...weird.)  One of my sisters brought home a cat (Elton), but he ran off after my daddy (farm boy, and all) fixed him with a rubber band.  We also had a dog named Pup, but we had to put him down after he bit a neighbor.
Since I've been married, I've had several dogs:  Gizmo (from The Gremlins), Murdock (From The A Team), Duke (because what else do you call a Pit Bull?), Petey (again, just because), Scooter (CH had always wanted a dog named Scooter), Rusty (I have no idea why), Abby (CH found her after she had been abandoned), Dixie (from Designing Women),  Molly (no idea why), and now we have Ally (from Ally McBeal) & Pepper (because she was almost all black when we got her).
5.  Were you ever a girl/boy scout?
I was a girl scout, but not a very good one.  Bad memories:  When I wore my Brownie dress to school in 2nd Grade, I got my 1 and only paddling.  I never wore it again.  Then, when I was older, we went to the girl scout camp and spent the night.  They had these "tents" with wooden floors.  I heard mice the whole night long scurrying around, and, with my imagination, just knew they were going to be running over me.  I never went back there again.  And soon after that I stopped being a girl scout.
