Wednesday Hodgepodge: Holy Week Edition

I love reading Joyce's posts, but her A to Z Blogging Challenge Posts are killing me!  She's been to places I've only dreamed of, and she has the most amazing pictures.
Here are the questions for this week:

1. What are your plans for Easter Day/weekend?
Saturday I need to put out my Easter decorations.  I just couldn't put them out during Lent this year, in keeping with the solemn time that Lent should be.  I'll keep them up for a while:  In the Catholic Tradition, the Easter Season lasts until Pentecost, which is on June 12th this year.  I don't think I'll keep my Easter flags and mailbox cover up quite that long!
2. Besides Jesus, what one person from The Bible would you most like to meet and why?
Mary.  I didn't even have to think on that one.  The Mother of Jesus, the one who said "yes" when God asked.  How incredible it would be to talk to her and see what it was like to be the Mother of God.  How deep her pain must have been.

3. What is one modern day convenience you didn't have as a child that was easy to live without?
Oh, that's easy!  Cell phones!  How in the world did we live without them?
4. Are you more right brained or left brained? If you don't know what that means there is an interesting little quiz here.
Oh, Joyce! Where do you get this stuff?  The quiz said I was more left-brained, but I'm left-handed, so what does that mean?  When I read the description, I thought "there is no way".  It said I'm not verbal.  HEEEEELLOOOO:  I'm a speech pathologist.  How can I not be verbal?    When I read each category and the descriptions, I kept saying, "oh, definitely"!  Interesting.
5. What is something you intended to do today but didn't? Why?
Call the heating/air guy....because I forgot.  I asked CH a few weeks ago if we should check the air conditioner, but he said he thought it was going to be okay.  We turned it on a couple of weeks ago, and it worked fine for a while, but then it quit blowing cold air.  I need to call and get them to come out before it gets really hot again and they're covered up.
6. Cadbury Creme Eggs or Reeses peanut butter?
I have a friend whose husband is British.  She swears by the real Cadbury Eggs, but she hasn't bothered to share!  Give me Reeses...anytime!
7. Who was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child?
I don't think I had a favorite.  I don't remembered what I just had to watch on Saturday mornings , aka "Cartoon Day".  These poor kids today:  they have cartoons anytime they want.  They have nothing to look forward to during the week!  When I was in high school, I would come home from school and my mom & I would watch "Tom & Jerry".  I don't think that went on for very long, but it was a memorable time!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Since Joyce asked about Easter candy, I have a question:  Remember those cheap cream filled eggs that you used to be able to get in a pack of 6?  I'm not talking about the Russell Stover eggs; I'm talking the cheapo eggs.  Are they not making them anymore?  I can't find them anywhere.  I haven't looked at Big Lots yet.  I LOVE those things!  On second thought...maybe it's a good thing I haven't found them!
The Dove peanut butter and the Dove coconut eggs are wonderful.  Has anyone else tried them?

  1. My oldest loves coconut eggs so I'll look for the Dove...I haven't seen the eggs you're talking about around here. Maybe they couldn't compete with the big name candies.

I laughed at the quiz...it made me sound so logical : )
Happy Easter...Mary was a good answer...I almost said Mary.

  3. I agree ... it would be so incredible to talk to Mary ... your answer reminded me of the song "Mary Did You Know", one of my favorites.

And I didn't think about how kids today don't have the anticipation of "Cartoon Day" like we did. And the cartoons of our day are so much better than the ones of today. Thankfully we get the Boomerang channel on our cable ... they carry a lot of the old cartoons. I enjoy watching that with my grands.

Can't help you about the Dove peanut butter or Dove coconut eggs ... I'm not a fan of peanut butter or soft-centered chocolates. ;-)

    Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  4. I almost wrote Tom and Jerry too, Mary! BTW, I laughed pretty hard at your comments on my blog this morning!! The blue car, btw, does not have all of the nice features. But, it does have lower gas mileage.

  6. All four of our daughters will be home this weekend so we will be having a great Easter!

I couldn't narrow down my bible people- I picked David and Ruth from the old testament and Peter from the new testament. And then there's list number two...LOL

I agree with you about all the cartoons today- makes it impossible to look forward to them.

I don't remember the eggs you're asking about but Big Lots is a good place to look...also try searching online.

  7. I always thought that you are the opposite of your brain...for example, left brained = right handed...right brained= left handed, etc. Maybe not. I think my Walgreens had those cheapo eggs...next time I'm there I'll check. They tend to have the candy that is unique.

  8. Remember those candy eggs - they came in all different colors - they had a really thick hard sugar outside and some kind of mystery white cream in the middle??? I hate those!!! My mom LOVED them. She would buy a bag of them every Easter - long after my brother and I had moved away. I don't know if they still make those either.

  11. I'm with you about cell phones; I could easily give mine up and not miss it at all.

I think Mary would be a good person to talk with; I'd like to meet David and sit with him as he was watching his sheep and praising God with his songs (psalms :)

I know what you are talking about with those eggs, I haven't seen them in a long time.

You are right about the kids these days having cartoons any time they want. They definitely are spoiled compared to us having to wait all week for them!!

  12. I love the Reese's eggs. My favorites are actually those candy eggs that Donna describes above. She hates them, I love them. The funny thing is the only place I can ever find them anymore is at Hobby Lobby! That reminds me, I better get there before they are all sold out! :)

  13. I'm in for "Dove" anything - peanut buter..coconut..smushed on a car bumper. Yes, I'm sick. :)
Would you believe that I've never eaten a cream egg? Cadbury or otherwise? There's just something about cracking open my chocolate to find something that looks like a raw egg inside that wigs me out. Reese's please?! And thank you! Great, fun answers, Mary! Have a beautiful day, girl! Candace

  15. If it says Dove and Candy I am there. I am with you too on the cell phone. I have not seen any of the old school cream eggs. I used to love to eat them....mainly because they did not have that yellow yolk looking center the cadbury does.
