Now You See It, Now You Don't {Wednesday Hodgepodge}

Joyce has concocted a very creative now you see it, now you don't Wednesday Hodgepodge for us today! Click on the graphic above to see how other bloggers answered the questions. Don't forget to leave a comment!

1. Describe your 30's in one sentence. If you're not yet 30 tell us one thing you hope to accomplish once you hit that particular decade.
Where did they go?

2. Is it harder for you to exercise or eat healthy?
Exercise. I can think of a gazillion things to do instead of exercising.

3. June 7th is National VCR Day. Huh? Anyway, this reminded me of something I saw on Facebook listing household items we no longer have and the VCR was on it. I couldn't put my hands on that list, but found another list here of 21 items we all had ten years ago, but which are now obsolete-

bookshelves (WHAT!!???), drip coffee makers, alarm clocks, file cabinets, desktop computers, printers, printed phone books, answering machines, fax machines, paper shredders, a Rolodex, CD racks, CD burners, china cabinets, home phones, entertainment consoles, DVD players, calculators, takeout menus, incandescent light bulbs, and cable TV

Your thoughts? How many on the list do you still have? Still use?
Bookshelves (there's nothing like holding a real book in your hand and turning actual pages!), drip coffee makers (I think coffee from a Keurig tastes funny), alarm clocks (although I don't use it I still have one beside my bed), file cabinet, printers (how do people print things without a printer???), china cabinet (it was my mom's), entertainment console (my dad made mine so it's not going anywhere!), and DVD player. Oh, and I have a VCR sitting on the floor next to my entertainment center. It isn't plugged up but it's an easy fix!

4. What's something you see disappearing in the next ten years?
Maps. And actual mail.

5. How did you celebrate your birthday this past year? Is that typical?
I went to work, and since my birthday fell on Holy Thursday this year, I went to Mass, played my flute with the choir, and had the privilege of being one of the 12 people who had their feet washed. No, definitely not typical but it was pretty cool. And humbling. What better way to spend your birthday?

6. Insert your own random thought here.
If you didn't see my previous post, I'll summarize: I'm thinking of changing the name of my blog to "Life in a Former Small Town" since the Small Town has grown and is expected to grow even bigger in the years to come. I'll keep the URL the same, just change the title. Thoughts?

  1. I'm with you on so many of your answers and I think anyone over 30 probably still has many of those items mentioned in question #3.

Visiting from the Hodgepodge. Have a great day!

  2. We still have a drip coffeepot too. I left that off my list. We have a Keurig too, but I don't care for the 'foaminess', plus if hubs and I are both drinking two cups a day it gets expensive. I think you still live in a small town, just not as small as it once was but your blog title still fits.

  3. I like your title! Your 30's, like everything else, are gone in the blink of an eye. I believe I will have an alarm clock next to my bed always. I would hate to see mail go. I love sending cards. That was a wonderful way to spend your birthday.

  4. I agree with maps. I work at a library and have had people looking for maps of our town, as far as I know our visitor's bureau nor our city puts them out. All we could give them is a local bus company's map. I have to look things up on Google maps everytime I'm looking for something.

  5. I never thought of maps, but I can see them going away. Kids today have no idea how to read one. What a wonderful way to spend your birthday!

  6. I'm with you on the Keurig coffee tasting weird. I like my coffee maker!O the things on the list the only thing I didn't have was a paper shredder and I never have had one. I'm a product of the past.
Hope your day is a good one.

  7. I'd be interested in hearing how your small town has grown!

  8. I enjoyed your answers, Mary...and great title! I feel just like you do about the "old school" things. Speaking about your former small town, I can surely relate...We have been here in a former small town in central NC since 1992. It has grown by leaps and bounds and the traffic is hideous with no relief in sight. We are planning to build on our son's property in TN and it is WAY out in the boonies...can't wait!

  9. Well, can't believe that you are not facing issues with Blogger. You are the only person I know of that isn't. They have made us all "no reply" bloggers and are no longer allowing our comments to come in through our email. It is soooo aggravating and takes a whole lot of fun out of blogging for sure. I'm hoping they get it fixed soon and if they don't, well, I might check into going with WordPress. I'll wait and see.

    1. Well...I spoke too soon! I wondered why no one had visited my post or commented! I hope they fix this soon!

  10. I think maps will be gone soon, too. Mother used maps all the time and I have found a whole box of them among her things. She did not trust GPS systems at all. I hear you on the FORMER small town. Our's has grown so much that the name needs to change from Mount Pleasant to Mount Plastic of Mount Not-So-Pleasant. Ha! I say change the title if you feel led to do so. But remember, when in doubt, don't. Not helpful at all am I? :)

  11. I remember posting here yesterday. I'm surprised they are not here. Mine are on my blog post.

  12. I think you might be right about mail but I hope not maps - especially the ones that are large scale that are so useful when walking, especially as that's often when there's no phone signal to consult google maps! lol Lots of people will be getting lost. I think if you feel a new name would be more relevant for your blog then change it. Change is hard sometimes.
