Stuck on the Hodgepodge

Head over to Joyce's to add your post and see how everyone else answered this week's questions.

 1. Besides the flag, tell us about something red, something white and something blue from your weekend.

My amaryllis is blooming. My Daddy gave me some bulbs & I thought I killed them!
Don't mind the weeds.
White: I'm completely stuck on this one. I wore white pants to Mass on Sunday, but that's the only thing I can think of!
Blue: CH & I took a trip to Lowe's. This picture was from last year, but again this year they had a parking spot with a Memorial Day Observance. I just didn't take a picture of it.

2. June is here and it's National Give A Bunch of Balloons Month. Who would you give a bunch to if you could? Tell us why.

My friend Michelle, who is the convention chairperson for our Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (CCW) Convention coming up next week. She envisioned balloons at the hotel & on-site. I think she's able to get some but not as many as she wanted due to the budget.

3. What are three adjectives you associate with the month of June? Something you're looking forward to this month?

Hot, reading, lazy. While CH & I aren't going on the vacation we thought we would, we are going to spend a week camping. We're going to 1 place we've never been, 1 place we've been to (with amazing views!), and we're ending the week at some friends' house.

4. Tell us about a time (besides the obvious Corona answer) when you felt stuck in second gear.

Every Fall with work. I always feel like I'm in second gear that time of year. Somehow, though, things always seem to get done.

5. Sum up your May in fifteen words or less.

Unbelievably anxiety-ridden, but it's over now and I can enjoy the summer.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

For the first time ever, we're having trouble with a pest in our grill. YUCK. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm pretty convinced it's of the mouse persuasion. I cleaned it really well over the weekend and it appeared to be all good until Tuesday. I have a bird feeder next to the porch, so maybe if I move that it will help. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  2. We used to have that problem in North Jersey and post winter snows you'd open the grill usually to a nest. Then the scouring had to happen, such a pain. I'm not sure what the answer might be...maybe someone at Ace or Lowes would have a suggestion. Hope you enjoy your vacation and everyone is doing well.

    1. I did some research and found that mixing 1 cup of water with 2 tsp of eucalyptus and then spraying around the area is a deterrent. I'm going to give it a go!

  3. I work in a church and over the last few weeks . . .we've had church mice. Seriously. They got into the communion to go cups (pandemic!) and ate 200 little crackers!! It looked like they had a drunken party but it was just grape juice! You may have to get rid of the birdseed for a little while.

    1. Oh, my! I've moved the birdseed...I can hear my daddy telling me that you don't need bird feeders in the winter...they can fend for themselves!

  4. I like your answers. Uggghh on the pest in the grill...I've always been afraid of finding one. The key may be cleaning it all the time (though you may do that already and they're just curious). Your camping trips sound fun. My hubby isn't a big camper, and I think at this point I'd only do it if we had a trailer, which we don't so, no camping for us.

    1. I started out in a small camper...just a bed, air conditioning/heat, very small fridge (think smaller than a dorm fridge), and a 2 burner stove. We still have it, just haven't used it in over a year. OS has it right now. Now we're using a tent, and we sleep on cots ('cause this old lady isn't about to sleep on the ground!). It's actually a lot faster to set up and tear down than it was with the trailer!

  5. Pretty Amaryllis. May sounds like it was challenging. Happy June to you!

    1. Thank you! I really thought I killed the amaryllis! May was extremely challenging; probably the most challenging end to a school year I've had in 35 years.
I'm glad to see June arrive!!!

  6. Or maybe chipmunks? We are inundated with them and their destruction in our garden planters...even with the hawk family in residence! Either way, relocating the bird feeder is probably a smart move. Good luck. The camping trip sounds awesome...have a great time! I look forward to reading about it on "Flyin' the Coop'.

  7. Now that you mention it, I did see a chipmunk on the porch last summer so I wonder if maybe it is a chipmunk? Hopefully, the eucalyptus spray along with giving it a good scrub after using will do it!

  8. The flowers are perfect for red, white and blue. I love your three words. Glad your anxiety is over and you can enjoy your summer. We had an issue a few years ago in our grill.
    Have a nice weekend.

  9. Hope you are able to figure out a solution for the critter of the mouse persuasion invading your grill. Had never thought of that being a possibility but we always have little bits of cooked meat fall through the grill. They would provide a feast to a hungry varmint.
