Where Does the Time Go?

I've been really, really bad at blogging lately.  I have no idea where my time is going, especially since school started back.  It's not that I have nothing to say...I've been doing "stuff" lately, I just haven't been blogging about it.
Not only have I been terrible about posting; I've also been bad about reading.  All of a sudden I have no time.  What the heck am I doing?  If somebody knows, fill me in!  (And, no, I haven't been spending my spare time vacuuming!)
I finally started seeing students last Wednesday.  I was so ready to just get started.  And now I feel like I need a break!  You laugh, but I'm serious.  I was talking with another Speech Pathologist (SLP) the other day, and we both agreed that we just felt overwhelmed this year.  Aside from the difficulty with scheduling, everything else is the same.  Scheduling seems to get more difficult every year with the increased demands on the teachers to get in all of their instruction.  Maybe it's just that the teachers are more stressed this year and it's filtering to us.
The state has a new teacher evaluation this year, which means more observations and a little bit more paperwork.  Teachers that are used to getting the top rating will be lucky if they get a '3' (out of 5) this year.  We've been told a '3' is where you want to be.  Ms. Principal told us that if you get a '5', you're Jesus.
Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of blogging very, very soon.  For those of you who are sticking with me, thanks!

  1. Hey, Mary! I hope things get worked out quickly and easily for you and that this turns out to be your best year ever. I completely understand about time slipping away and how you are feeling about blogging. I'm hoping to establish some sort of routine myself soon. Nevertheless, I am still out here reading and will continue to be. Post when you can. Have a great week!

  2. I've found it tough to blog lately. I've been reading and commenting when I can though!

I know a few people pretty upset about the new rating scale for teachers. But I won't go into all that here! I just hope it proves to be a success for the kids in this county and that we are able to keep the good teachers out there.

  5. My daughter was telling me about the new system just yesterday...I hate to use this word, but that SUCKS. They're going to make teaching so unappealing and difficult that no one will want to teach, and then what will happen to our children?

It seems everyone is too overwhelmed lately to blog or to read; I know I am.

  7. I think part of it is just this time of year-summer winding down, school starting craziness...I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things soon!

  8. Whew *wipes brow* I'm so glad to hear you weren't doing something silly like vacuuming! I would be so upset to know you were *gasp* cleaning your house instead of updating us! ;)

(That may or may not have been typed by a person who has a cleaning lady and almost never cleans her own house. *blush*)

I think we all go through ups and downs of blogging - just glad to know you didn't go away all together :)!

  11. I'm still here, but I'm finding it hard to squeeze the time to blog too!! Hang in there. You'll adapt to the new routine soon. Before you know it, Christmas will be here (not too soon, eh?). :)

  12. I've been miss you. Came by the other day to be sure I haven't somehow simply overlooked your posting, but No You! You'll get back into the swing of things soon, then you'll be ready to tell us more about "Life in a Small Town". Take care and we'll be here waiting for you.
