How I Wish It Would Rain

How long has it been since we've had rain at my house?  My favorite meteorologist says we have a yearly deficit of over 6 inches.   You can hear the grass crunch when you walk on it.

Remember the clover field we had in our backyard that was a feast for the baby bunny?  Well, this is what it looks like now:
 Even the weeds are screaming:

Yep, everything around here is singing this song:

Oh, the summer pattern of hit or miss showers/thunderstorms.  It misses us more than it hits.  I can look over the field in front of our house and see it raining in the distance, but it always seems to blow right by us.
Before you get all excited, those flowers in the picture are our next door neighbors.  Who spends a lot of money on the upkeep of his yard.  (His grass isn't crunchy.)

Last night the wind blew, we saw lightning, and we heard thunder.  "This is it!" I thought, making plans in my head about what I was going to say about it in my post (since I had written the above yesterday afternoon).  Guess how much we got?  Nothing.  Nada.  Zilch.  I absolutely couldn't believe it.  And, this morning, I woke up to the girls' water bowl hitting the side of the refrigerator.  My schnauzer was trying to get the very last drop from her water bowl.  At 5:30 a.m.  Waking me up.  So, being the good mom I am, I got up and filled up her bowl while she eagerly awaited to get the wet stuff to quench her thirst.  'Cause it's awfully dry here.  And hot.  The cool front that supposedly came through last night bringing with it less humidity and temps in the 80's?  I'll believe it when I see it, because right now, at 6:30 a.m., it's 72 degrees with 93% humidity.

I want to thank everybody for your kind comments, words of encouragement, and prayers for my back.  I had been going to the chiropractor but stopped going in April.  (Okay, just let me say this:  I know there are people out there who think they are complete quacks; I used to be one of them.  But, since I had been going, my instances of IBS have been practically none-except for a couple of very minor episodes- and I had been feeling great.  So, I really think there may be something to it.)  Well, I went back on Friday, and he said I definitely aggravated it.  (Thanks, Dr. Obvious!)  He adjusted me, and I went back for another adjustment yesterday.  It's so much better; I'm about 80% back to normal.

  1. So glad your back is better! We love chiropractors! So sorry about the rain though - drought years are so hard. You sounded a little discouraged - so I'm sending a cyber hug!

  2. I feel like we've had a lot of rain. I'm in SC and saw on a friend's fb that it was raining at home yesterday afternoon. Between the rain of course everything goes back to crunchy but we've been getting soaked regularly.

So glad your back is feeling better!

  3. @ Melinda: Gosh, I didn't mean to sound discouraged, but hugs are more than welcome! Over the winter we had plenty of rain, but looks like the deficit has caught up!

  4. We came home from vacation to a lawn of dead grass. It's pitiful! We got rain last night but I am afraid it's not quite enough to revive our yard. I hope we get more soon!

  5. Glad your back is better!

We had a major storm yesterday--thunder, lightning, wind, rain. We needed it but I wish I could have sent some your way.

  6. We are kind of in the same pattern. However we did get quite a bit of rain Sunday but yesterday mid-morning our yard was dry enough to mow. It did cool it down a little. It is 83 now and last week it was up in the higher 90s. Not sure if I have told you, I love your background.
    Have a great week!
    until next time... nel

  9. So thankful your back is better. I looove my chiropractor but they are all so different, it took me awhile to find one that I liked and felt was really helping me and was not making me pay hundreds of dollars up front for a series of treatments.
The chiropractor I have now charges me $20 a a visit, as our insurance doesn't cover chiroproctic care, and that includes 30 minutes on the hydro-massage table, 15 minutes with the massage therapist and 15 minutes with him. I told him that the truly the Lord saw fit to bless me by directing me to him and his practice!
We've actually had a pretty good balance of rain and sunshine but the humidity had been smothering until yesterday evening. It is supposed to be in the mid-70's to low 80's for a few days, with low humidity!! Thank you, Jesus!! Just in time for the holiday weekend!!

  10. I am glad you are on your way to recovery (almost normal)
I wish I could share some rain with you...we have it daily and GOOD at that.
I always laugh at us being the 'sunshine state' cause in the summer, we have lots of rain too.

Try a rain dance, I am sure it will amuse your neighbors.

  14. I'm sorry about your back... I've suffered from back problems since I was 15 and boy it sucks. I've learned to do everything in short intervals! Prep food, sit down, mop the floor, sit down, do laundry, sit down... you get the idea! But I'm glad to hear that it's getting better. Chiropractors are wonderfull but I notice that when I don't go my back is worse then it was to start... can't win either way!

BTW... Thank you for the comment, I am now following you!
