Wednesday Hodgepodge Unwrapped

Thank you, Joyce, for pointing out that we only have 4 more Hodgepodges until Christmas.  I think I could've done without that little tidbit of information.  Way to slap me back into reality!

1.  With that being said I think I need to dive right in to some Christmas related questions, don't you? Which do you prefer-pretty gift wrap with a bow or a pretty gift bag with/without a bow?  What percentage of your holiday gifts are currently (as in right this very minute) wrapped in some form or fashion?
Pretty gift wrap with a bow.  Of course, that doesn't happen around here, unless it's the sticky kind of bow.  I'm not much of a creative gift-wrapper.  As for that last question:  Just in case you didn't realize from my opening statements:  I only have the gifts for my special ed lady friends (the ones who get together every month for dinner.)

2.  What is one item on your Christmas list this year?
I don't have anything on my list.  I think I have pretty much everything I need/want.

3.  What makes a home?
I was just telling someone yesterday about my BIL & SIL's house.  It's a very nice, large house, but, as I told CH, I really like our home.  It's "comfortable":  it may be older and have its faults, but it's a home.  Sure, I miss the bigger closets that we had in SC, but this one feels more like home.  The boys were able to run in and out of the house with their friends without me worrying about if the house was going to get messed up, or if something was going to get broken.

4.  Motown founder Berry Gordy celebrates his birthday on Hodgepodge Day-November 28th. Are you a fan of the Motown sound?  If so, who's your favorite Motown artist and/or song? Here's a list in case you're stuck.
Oh, how I LOVE Motown!  The Supremes, Tempations, Smoky Robinson, Marvin Gaye.  They don't music like that anymore.  I remember when my siblings were in school, Mama would put the Supremes on the record player and I would dance & sing to it.  Or, I would play with my dolls while listening.

5.  Red or green-which one is more prevalent in your closet?
I think it's a toss-up.  I don't have a whole lot of either one.

6.  True or false-bacon makes it better? If you answered true, what's your favorite dish made with bacon?
False.   Ranch Dressing or cream cheese: that's a different story!

7.  Share a favorite holiday memory.
After Midnight Mass, we would congregate in the kitchen for eggnog and Hungarian Coffeecake. Then, it would be off to bed so Santa could come.  We didn't have a fireplace in our house, so we put our stockings on our bedposts.  There was at least when I just KNOW I heard Santa filling up my stocking.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
We had a good Thanksgiving weekend.  But, my SIL didn't get a blog up and running.  I mentioned it to her, but she didn't really seem to want to get one going.  She doesn't know what she's missing out on!  She made this incredible Crescent Sausage Casserole on Saturday morning, and it was so easy.  And just as incredibly good.

  1. Great memory. I've always thought it would be fun to go to a church service at midnight on Christmas Eve, but I've never done it.

  2. I like bacon but don't throw it on everything. Technically I'm not supposed to have all that salt. Cream cheese makes most things better : )

I've seen that casserole on Pinterest. I love a breakfast casserole, especially when I have house guests. Will have to give it a try.

  3. My husband and I used to do the midnight Christmas service, until we had our children. Then we began going to the 8pm Christmas Eve service.

I encourage SIL to blog! It's so much FUN!

  5. Your christmas tradition is the same as ours! So glad we're not the only family that didn't open presents after service but had to go to sleep so 'Santa comes'! :)

I love Motown too. I am a former Special Ed. teacher. Your group sounds like fun!

  8. Oh...I love me some Motown tunes, too! Gets me movin' and groovin'! I've never been to a a midnight service...not sure I could stay awake that long! Our Christmas Eve service is at 4PM...that's more doable.

  9. My mom and I always wanted to attend a candlelight Christmas Eve service, but my father's side of the family had dinner on Christmas Eve, so I've never been. Your memory sounds so wonderful. :)

  10. It's been a few years since we've been to a midnight Christmas Eve service ... it's hard for us old folks to stay up that late, but I think we'll definitely try to do that this year.

I'm going to go check out that breakfast casserole. I made one a few years back that used crescent rolls and sausage that we loved ... since it will be just DH and me on Christmas Day this year, I think I'll make a breakfast casserole for us. ;-)

  11. I loved Midnight Mass as a kid. My best friend was Catholic and I always attended with her. It was such a wonderful thing.

  12. I am so glad my daughter started me blogging even though it still frustrates her when I couldn't always link up properly. It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

  13. I agree with you, the most important aspect of a home is that it's "comfortable". Mine is.

I loved your Christmas memory. Stockings on the bedposts, I like that!
