Wednesday Hodgepodge
1. When were you last 'on a mountaintop'? You may answer in the literal or figurative sense.
Well...one of my schools could be considered to be 'on a mountaintop', so I'll say yesterday!
2. Do you establish and maintain a strict budget in your household? What is one piece of financial advice you would offer someone just starting out on their own?
Not really. I pay some of the bills, CH pays the rest. If we want to go to a movie or out to eat, we go. I would tell somebody just starting out to not use their credit card: If you don't have the money, you don't need it. Unless, of course, you need to buy plane tickets to Europe! :)
3. Cherries-yay or nay? Cherry pie, cherry cola, black forest cake, or a scoop ofBen and Jerry's Cherries Garcia...pick one.
I like cherries. I make this chocolate cake that uses cherry pie filling in it: Chocolate Fudge Cherry Cake
You pour the frosting over the cake while it's still warm, and the texture is unbelievable.
4. Should you ever discuss religion or politics with people you don't know?
Better with people I don't know than family! (JK!) I get very uncomfortable when someone I've just met starts talking about religion. Talking about politics doesn't bother me as much, but religion is pretty personal.
5. When you take a road trip do you prefer to be the driver or the passenger? Where were you headed on your last road trip?
The passenger. We took a little road trip between Christmas & New Year's:
6. If we peeked inside your closet, what color would we say is most prevalent?
Blue. Or black.
7. Who's your favorite senior citizen and why are they special?
I can't pick just one: my parents. I think it's pretty obvious why they're so special to me!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Every time I go by our little duck pond, I look for 2 ducks. One of them obviously has something wrong with his/her wings: it looks like they've died, they're just hanging there and aren't pretty. The other duck is always close by, almost like it's protecting its mate. It really is a sweet scene. One of these days I'm actually going to stop and take a picture to share.

Now that I've had a mountain fix I need a road trip like you had in December : ) You're lucky to live surrounded by the mountains. It really is so beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteI am also uncomfortable talking to people I just met about religion or politics. Road trip on #5-could possibly be in my future. Have a great day!
ReplyDeletePoor little duck! At least it has it's mate.
ReplyDeletePoor duck. Love road trips....in fact coming your way this weekend for a quick get away. Love the picture of your parents. I wish I could have said mine....I guess I could have said they were my favorites. I need you to email me your snail mail address. I have a surprise for you.
ReplyDeleteI could use a little beach trip about now. So tired of this cold, gloomy weather! Aww...would love to see a pic. of those two ducks! Such a sweet little story!
ReplyDeleteYou just never know when you may need a ticket to Europe :)
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear about your ducks!! Very sweet that it's not alone at least.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great week and having MUCH WARMER weather than we are!!! Hugs!
Credit cards can only cause problems when used. I know we have to have them for renting a car and shopping online but if you don't have the money to pay them in full then they should not be used! You know that is very true on #4. I like that answer. Your parents look really sweet. Oh that is so sad about the duck but I love the love between them.
ReplyDeletePoor little duck, would love to see pictures of them. Your road trip sounds like fun! I would love to go to the beach again! Maybe one of these days!
ReplyDeleteuntil next time...nel
Tickets to Europe....yeah could be worth it. haha
ReplyDeleteA trip to the beach would be great.
How sweet of that duck's mate to stand by and protect the injured one.
ReplyDeleteExcellent advice in #2 ... especially the plane tickets to Europe part! ha!
That Chocolate Fudge Cherry Cake sounds yummy!
We plan to revisit our road trip to the Keys ... and spend more time there on our next visit. It's a beautiful spot, isn't it?
I always tell young couples just starting out to learn to live on one income so they have options when it's time to start a family. Maybe they won't want to stay home with a baby, but if they decide not to, they will still have built up a big chunk of savings to put towards a house or something else.
ReplyDeletePeople tell me all the time that's not practical anymore, but I live in one of the highest cost of living areas in the country (DC), and I know families that do it. They make sacrifices and take the long view.
Oh the injured duck.....makes me sad, but I'm so glad she has a protector. We all need one don't we?
