Not Much to Say for this Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Did you watch The Oscars? How many of the Best Picture nominees have you seen? (American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Selma, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash)
Do you think actors should use their acceptance speeches as an opportunity to promote their political and/or social agenda? Does that sort of speech make you more or less inclined to change the channel?
I haven't seen any of them. I don't think actors should promote their political or social agenda at all. There are too many people out there who think that what they say is bible, and won't think for themselves.

2. Speaking of the movies... are you comfortable going to a movie alone? How about dinner in a restaurant (not fast food, but an actual restaurant)? The second half of this question was posed by Carrie who blogs over at It's Not Easy Being Queen. Thanks Carrie!
I have never gone to the movie alone, but I don't think I would mind it at all. Dinner in a restaurant? A little uncomfortable, I would think.

3. What's the last home repair or home improvement project you had to pay someone to complete? In hindsight was this a project you could have done yourself?
Off the top of my head, I would say it was the master bath that CH surprised me with a couple of years ago. We probably could have done it ourselves, but it certainly was much easier this way!

4. Have you ever had Indian food? Like it or no? If you're a fan, what's your favorite dish? Have you ever prepared this yourself at home? Is there an Indian restaurant in your current hometown?
I've never had Indian. There is a rather popular restaurant in the Rival town, but I've never been.

5. A song that reminds you of your parents?
It's not a particular song, but listening to Perry Como sing Christmas Songs reminds me of them.

6. The 26th of February is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day. What's your favorite, or one of your favorite, fairy tales? Do you have any childhood memories associated with aparticular fairy tale?
I don't know that I have a favorite. I remember reading them when I was little...it's too bad that kids now don't have that same experience.

7. What's a problem you solved yesterday?
The biggest problem I had yesterday was figuring out what I was going to eat for lunch. Gotta love snow days!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We bit the bullet last week and had our cable disconnected. We had been talking about it for a while. Most of the shows we watch are on network tv, or on Netflix. We decided to get a Hulu Plus account, so that takes care of shows that we would watch "On Demand". We bought an indoor antenna for each of the tvs & they're working great so far. Hopefully that won't change when the leaves are on the trees.

  1. I would disconnect our cable in a heartbeat, but DH would never agree to that. First of all, he's a much bigger fan of TV in general than I am, and secondly he'd be lost without sports to watch. I admit that I would miss watching our Cardinals play, but I'd be willing to forego that to save the $.

  2. We have satelite TV here...so many wasted channels : ) They design the packages so as not to put any two shows people want in the same one, thereby forcing you to go for the premium package. The cost is ridiculous too. We should probably investigate some other options, but it's a bundle, so that would mean internet and phone too. My mil said you got several inches...enjoy your snow days!

  3. It's been a while since I had a problem deciding what to make for lunch. With three budding chefs in the house they usually want the honors of cooking lunch. It can get quite interesting. :)

  4. Good for you for discontinuing cable. I would do it in a heart beat, but I'm not the one that watches TV here, LOL :) We are bundled together with our phone and internet, which I'm not crazy about, but seems to be the thing to do at least here. I have gone to movies alone, usually in the afternoon, not the evening. I've done fast food by myself and family type restaurants alone, but never a "fancy" place. Not sure I could do that unless I read through the entire meal :)

  5. I frequently go to restaurants alone because I'm comfortable being alone with a book & I enjoy eating out occasionally. I can only remember going to the movies alone twice--once before I entered the convent. I was in Philadelphia shopping and wanted to see Imitation of Life. I was afraid it wouldn't come to Wilmington before I left. I also remember going to see a Susan Sarandon movie when I was out of state on a conference. Songs? The first two songs I learned were Let Me Call You Sweetheart and Show Me the Way to Go Home! My day taught them to me and they always remind me of him. My mom also loved Bing Crosby as well as Perry Como! But I also remember her joking around singing a song called "Speedo" back in the 50s. (They often call me Speedo but my real name is Mr. Earl). As for fairy tales--I guess I've always been a dreamer and a romantic so I loved fairy tales but the one that always frightened me was Jack and the Beanstalk. Have no clue as to why!

  6. With technology today, everyone I know that has disconnected cable - doesn't regret it one bit....

  7. We came close to having our satellite cut off, last month, due to the ridiculous rising cost. We were able to negotiate 'a deal', so we chose to stay with it one more year. When the price goes back up, we'll most likely have it disconnected, and use the antenna and Netflix, as well.

  8. We keep thinking of getting rid of cable but would miss the live sport events.

  9. We've never had cable and couldn't get it at our location even if we wanted to. We have Netflix and Acorn so that we can watch movies on our TV using the HDMI cable from my laptop to the TV. Works great!

  10. I agree with you on #1. Hope you'll enjoy not having the cable and that you'll get all you want from Netflix and Hulu. Sometimes I think I'd like to do that.

  11. We have satellite and there are more channels than we know what to do with. Chris thinks we NEED it, though. Men!

  12. My son thinks we should do away with cable. We watch a lot of different channels, so i don't know if we'd be happy with that. It sure would save some money!

  13. I agree! Cable is way to much $$ nowadays.. I wish there was a way they'd let you pick out 100 channels YOU want, I only watch about 10 or 12 channels on our 100 something Comcast channels. They're are so many other ways to watch your shows and sports etc it makes cable not worth it.

  14. My Joe would go nuts without his sports on TV. Not sure I could handle not having cable, either. We have the bundle, with phone, TV and internet, and it works well for us.

  15. We have been talking about disconnecting too. We have Direct....and we always watch the same stuff.

  16. I'm not sure I could ever bite that bullet but I know that someday we will have less premium channels.
