Crazy Weather Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. 'In like a lion, out like a lamb'...does the first part of this saying describing March weather ring true  where you live?
01 March was actually pretty quiet. We're expecting ice & snow tonight, though.

2. March 4th is National Grammar Day. What common grammatical error bothers you the most?
One???  Just one??? It kills me when people write "loose" instead of "lose". I am mortified when I send a text and the grammar is off.
I gave a student a language test the other day. The student is required to point to the picture that goes with what I say. I am deeply bothered by the statement ending with the word "at".

3. William Arthur Ward says- 'The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.' Which one are you?
Hopefully an optimist. I really try to look on the positive side of things.

4. What's something you need to 'march forth and conquer' this month?
Cleaning my house. You would think that it would be clean since I just had almost a full 2 weeks off, but...no.

5. An ongoing debate around here...do you dust first, then vacuum or vacuum first, then dust? Of the two routine household chores, which do you dislike the least? How's that for wording?
I vacuum, then dust, but I think you should probably dust first and then vacuum. That way you get the dust that falls on the floor. I'll take vacuuming any day over dusting.

6. According to thrilllist.com, the ten most photographed sites in the U.S.A. are-Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Southernmost House in Key West Florida, The Space Needle in Seattle, The Site of the Boston Massacre in Boston, The Bellagio Lake/fountains in Las Vegas, The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, Coit Tower in San Fransisco, The Art Institute of Chicago, Niagara Falls, and snagging the number one spot-The Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

How many on this list have you photographed? Which on the list would you most like to visit and photograph?
2: Cinderella's Castle & the Lincoln Memorial.  Niagara Falls is on my list.

7. Fifty years ago Monday (March 2, 1965) The Sound of Music premiered at the Rivoli Theatre in NYC. Have you seen the film? Do you own a copy? On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love it (or not)? Ten=best movie ever. If you're a fan, what's your favorite scene or song from the movie?
Definitely a 10! Oh, how I love that movie!!! And, yes, I own a copy. Favorite song: Edelweiss. Favorite scene: when the nuns have the piece of the engine.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
New tv show alert: "Manhattan". It's on WGN (we watched it on Hulu); the 2nd season starts this summer. Set in Los Alamos, it's all about the Manhattan Project. Very interesting.C

  1. I was sure you'd have seen the Southernmost House. I have Manhattan on the DVR. I'm way behind but will catch up eventually. There is a book out called The Wives of Los Alamos...fiction I think? I have it on my to-read list. My uncle was a nuclear physicist and worked at Los Alamos. We loved going to his house as kids because he had a bomb shelter in the back yard. I have been known to text back with corrected grammar if I notice my error. My girls think I'm ridiculous, but I hate seeing it in writing : )

  2. Love your answers. The weather here has been crazy too. I joined in for the first time this week. It was fun.

  3. I could have (and should have) answered #4 with cleaning my house, too. But I really don't want to conquer it ... I need to, I just don't want to. ;-)

  5. I have not seen the show Manhattan. Would it make sense to start in the 2nd season? It does sound interesting. When you see Niagara Falls just make sure it isn't on Labor Day Weekend or any other major holiday. We made that mistake last year and it wasn't pretty. When you go though, make sure to visit Niagara on the Lake.

  6. As a former English teacher and now an editor, there are many grammar errors that annoy me. However, grammar aside, I often have to bite my tongue when I'm in a restaurant with a group of women and the waiter or waitress asks, "What can I get for you guys?"

  8. I too would like to see Niagra Falls one day; my parents honeymooned there years ago :) I don't blame you for not cleaning your house during the time you were off on snow days; much more interesting things to do I would imagine :)

I am back to house cleaning after my three year strike (I didn't clean when we lived in Southern California since hubby only worked 15 hours, I worked 40 plus per week and I thought he should clean not me, now that he works more, I'm back to cleaning, LOL); anyway, I'm finding that I would rather dust because I have so little to dust rather than vacuum since there is a lot to vacuum here. However, in saying that, its not that hard to vacuum not having dog hair around, though I do miss that little corgi.

  9. Yet another fun Hodgepodge! I encourage anyone who hasn't seen Niagara Falls to try to get there once. It is amazing to see!

  10. You know what, I was so much more organized when I worked. Being home has made me lazy and I'm trying to turn that around! I like to dust first so I don't have carpet marks later.
