Why I'm Through with Kroger

Let me preface this post by saying that I truly love most of Kroger's products. A lot of the things I buy from the grocery store are Kroger brand. For most of the 30 years I've been married, I've gone to Kroger. Except when we were in SC, because we didn't have one in Rock Hill.

Now that that is out of the way, I've had it with Kroger. I can only remember 2 times in the past 11 years when my groceries were appropriately bagged. Once, I the assistant manager bagged my groceries & did an awful job. Is it so hard to put all of the frozen & cold things together, and in the cold bags that I have?

I bought groceries yesterday afternoon, and I very politely told that young lady that if she could put all of the cold things together in the cold bags, it would be awesome. She put as much as she could in one bag (making it extremely heavy), then looked at me and said that was all that would fit in the bag. I pointed out that I had 2 more cold bags. Then, I suggested that we transfer some of the things in the heavy cold bag to another cold bag. She then put the cabbage in the empty cold bag, and I again repeated that the full bag was too heavy, so I wanted to transfer some items over. She looked at me and said, "Then what do you want me to do with the produce?" I told her it could go into a regular bag. GEEEEEZZZZ.

There have been times when I've bagged my groceries myself. The last time I was there, I had to rebag several bags before I left the store.

Honestly, I'm done. Going to the grocery store is enough of a chore, but then you add that aggravation on top of it, and it's just ridiculous. Publix is a little more expensive, but the employees are exceptionally nice, and they know how to bag groceries. Guess where I'll be shopping from now on?

  1. It does get frustrating. We just shop at Wal-Mart and let them bag as they see fit, LOL. We don't even bring the reusable bags (but I do recycle the plastic bags).

  2. I don't do our shopping, but my hubby prefers to shop at a semi-warehouse-style store where he has to bag his own groceries ... lower prices and no worries about baggers who can't properly bag groceries. ;-)

  3. Can't say that I blame you. I hate when they put my bread in with items that crush it or throw the bananas around and bruise them. Sounds like Kroger may need to train their baggers.

  4. I wish we had a Publix. Or a Kroger for that matter. We have one store in our town, and it's awful. It's a Stop n' Shop but we affectionately? refer to it as the Stop n' Rob. I sometimes drive to the next town over to do a big shopping. For the most part you bag your own here, which I prefer. One reason I do self-checkout at our local store is because I cannot handle the way the store employee bags my groceries. And if you say you'll do it yourself they get irritated, but I like what I like : )

  5. I honestly TRY to bag my own groceries when I can - I used to work in a grocery store through my teenage years. I can bag better then these people.
Our Kroger has these little kids that pay NO ATTENTION to anything when they bag. What kills me is when they put 1 item in 1 bag... I have to carry in like 20 bags for nothing.
I like using the recycle bags just because they stand up better, are more square - they seem to bag better using those.

  6. I can completely understand your frustration, especially since you just want to get out the doors and be on your merry way ASAP! Wal-mart is the worst at bagging, in my opinion.

  7. We are finding that baggers are not like they use to be! Actually that hold true for a lot of people working retail these days. They just don't care about customer service.

  8. Publix will be happy to hear this! What a shame that Kroger has let the ball drop on customer service training. Publix does an excellent job, and (whether it is true, or not) the customer is always right and always comes first. We love Publix, and the headquarters is right here in Lakeland, FL.

  9. The one I never understand is that how many people like to put my raw meat in with anything. Including produce. Okay, if I don't have a lot of stuff and there's only one bag, fine. But at least put it on the bottom! Enjoy properly bagged groceries! :)

  10. Bagging them myself is MY favorite way to go! We have Publix here. The one closest to me is so convenient, but the baggers are horrible. I've been going to one that is a few miles further and they are so great; my favorite bagger is a sweet disabled man who does a great job. I don't get why it's SO hard?!
