Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What was your biggest worry five years ago?  Is it still a worry?
I can barely remember 2 days ago, much less 5 years ago!  It must have been that OS would graduate from college.  (He did.)

2. Yesterday (October 15th) was National Grouch Day...what makes you grouchy? What cheers you up when you're feeling grouchy?
That explains a whole lot!  Hormones.  That's what makes me grouchy.  Cheering me up?  A funny movie, being left alone.

3.  In one word, how does it feel to be photographed?
I hate to be photographed.  Period.

4. Besides your parents, who would you say had the greatest influence on you in choosing your life path?  Explain.
Gosh, I have no idea.  It takes a village!

5. The crisp days of autumn are here ...what's something you like to eat, but only if it's crisp?
Pumpkin Crisp.  It has "crisp" in the name, so that counts, right?  I have a friend who likes it so much, she eats it for breakfast!

6. What's the most useless object you own?
My iron.  It sits in the closet and rarely sees the light of day!

7.  Share a favorite fall memory.
Making "leaf houses" with one of my sisters.  We would rake the leaves into a kind of a "blueprint" of a house, with the leaves making up the walls.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Can you believe these schools banning "playing" during recess?  First, no balls.  Now, there's a school that is banning "Tag".  Goodness gracious!  This is unbelievable.  We certainly are becoming a soft nation.
Here's something that YS shared with me the other day.  I think it is just hilarious!  Skip ahead to around 30 seconds for the hilarity!

  1. What a sad world we live in when kids are no longer "allowed" to be kids. Banning "playing" and "tag" during recess...completely ridiculous, in my opinion. Kids need to be active as much as possible! I've seen that video several times and it still cracks me up! I'm with you on the hormones! I'm beginning to wonder if I'm entering menopause...no cycle for over 2 months now. Hey...no complaints from me on that note!

  3. National Grouch Day? That feels a little like planning for everyone to have a bad day. LOL.

My iron doesn't get out much either.

  4. I certainly agree with the craziness of the recess story (I thought it was a joke the first time I read it).

I figure part of childhood is letting kids be exposed to a reasonable amount of risk. Do I want my kids to hurt themselves? Of course not. But I do want them to learn when they are young, how to pick themselves up when they fall down and how to take thought out risks to push themselves physically so as to not be scared to try new things when they are older.

You need to fall down a few times to learn that it doesn't kill you. And if you don't learn that as a kid, it's ten times harder to figure out as an adult - when the stakes are sometimes higher.

  5. My iron has cobwebs growing on it. It sits on a shelf and doesn't move.

  6. Leaf houses are so much fun! I had forgotten how the lower grades would create them in school. Thanks for refreshing that fun memory for me.

  7. It's awful to see the activities and games we used to play are now being banned. Our grandkids might get hurt. It's a wonder any of us survived.
The dog video is funny. "A dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do". hahaha
Good blog post. I enjoyed it.

  8. Hubs irons in our house, otherwise I might have said iron. He likes to iron and presses his clothes every.single.day...in fact he'll take a shirt out of the dry cleaning bag and touch it up. I am not complaining : )

So much ridiculousness in this country!! Makes me a little grouchy : )

  9. Never heard of or had pumpkin crisp. Banning play during recess-or even tag-and we wonder why children are becoming inactive.
