Ignorance is NOT Bliss..or Maybe it is

Disclaimer:  If you are not Catholic, you may not "get" this post.

It hit me yesterday as I checked FB, that there are still so many ignorant people out there.  You would think, in this day & age, that there would be less.  A friend's (who is not Catholic but seemed genuinely excited) status update:
White smoke coming from the Vatican! A new Pope has been selected. Don't know who he is. Live coverage on TV now.

My heart fell when I read the 2 comments below her status:

Satans servant! Many will follow and many will perish because of his false teachings. So sad that the media covers it so greatly........ of course the shows how wrong it is. So sad.

New pope- old pedophile?

Of course I had to put my 2 cents in:

This is definitely an exciting time for Catholics world-wide! Can't wait to see the good that this man does in the name of God!

I normally wouldn't comment on things like that, but I just had to.  There have been times in my life when I've "strayed" from the Church.  This happens to be one of those times in my life.  I should know better:  It seems that every time that's happened, there has been some event in my life that has drawn me back.  This also happens to be one of those times in my life.

I don't deal well with things not going right in my life.  I like to live in my bubble, pretending that the whole world is a sunshiney place where everything goes right.  Sometimes that bubble bursts... big time.  Sunday night I had a really hard time staying asleep.  Laika wanted out around 2:00, and then I couldn't get back to sleep.  A lot of times when that happens, if I start to say a rosary (even if I don't have one in my hands) I'll fall asleep.  Then, I started thinking about the thing that burst my perfect little bubble, and asked Saints Monica & Augustine to help out.  The result:  I went right to sleep and actually felt pretty good on Monday.  I was able to let a some of the worry go.

Work went well, too.  Monday night I had a talk with CH about some things that had happened (work related) that really had me down.  His comment was something like:  "Sometimes you don't have the best attitude".  I had to laugh at that.  Partly because he was right, and partly because I really, really try to have a good attitude at work.  If you don't have a good attitude, the kids suffer.

I hate that I feel like I'm talking "in code", but there are just some things that I don't feel comfortable putting out on the blogosphere.  Thank goodness next week is Spring Break, because I need to get my life in order...professionally & personally.    Hopefully I can take that week to do some soul-searching, rest, and get geared up for the last 9 weeks of school!

  1. A personal relationship with God, that's healthy and pure, is the only thing that makes everything else right! Big hugs and loads of blessings to you!!!

  2. I understand ... there are things in every blogger' life that just are too personal or private to be blog fodder. I'll be praying that you will be able to use this next week off to get things straightened out. {{hug}}

  3. I think what you're experiencing is common for every person, believer or not. We all go through times when we question ourselves, others, and God. I have, finally, matured in my faith in God enough to know and to fully trust that He is with me always. I know that any worry or burden I have, I can take it to Him and He'll carry it for me. That brings me such great comfort. Praying that you, too, will find the peace "that transcends all understanding." Hang-in-there, my friend...Spring Break will do you wonders, I'm sure!

  4. I think there is much good in the world. People doing good. What we hear though, is the bad. There is plenty of that too, but also there is a lot of good. I am not Catholic, but this man seems to truly have a heart (and a track record) for caring for the poor. Why can't we assume the best instead of the worst?

I wear rose colored glasses most of the time too : ) I hope you have a nice week of rest and reflection. I do get there are things we don't spell out on our blogs...maybe writing out your 'stuff' in a journal would help you see it in a different way. Writing my issues out, whatever they may be, seems to help. Most of the time it doesn't go beyond the page, yet inside I feel better. Take care!

  5. I completely appreciate your blog post & your honesty :) Its tough to see how the world struggles with things & we all have our own opinions on things... sometimes not reflecting the best in Christ... but we do like you say, check the attitude & try again :)

  6. All of the comments and controversy that get brought up are interesting, aren't they? I love that your response was simply a positive statement of your thoughts and not more responses to the same old, tired prejudices.

Thanks for your honesty about your struggles; we all have them and it helps to know that we're not alone. And you're very wise not to share specifics on a blog! I don't need to know what they are to pray for you, which I will be doing. Have a restful week off!

  8. I hope you have a restful spring break. I know what you mean about talking in code a lot on our blogs; I do that a lot. I sometimes think that would be the benefit of a private blog so you could let it all out to only those that you trust to read it; here when we are exposed publicly with no idea who is reading us, we must write in code.

I think the majority of us tend to go back to God when times are tough and slip away when times are going good. I think he sometimes allows times of toughness so that we can remember to rely totally and fully on him.
