Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. In what way are you your own worst enemy?
I can be pretty hard on myself.  And, I can talk myself out of just about everything.

2. Jacques Cousteau's birthday was Monday, June 11th...ever been scuba diving? Is that something you'd like to try? What's your favorite 'under the sea' creature?
I've never been, but CH & MS are certified.  MS got his certification through his biology class in high school.  He went on a really cool trip to Florida and got to swim with the manatees.  I'm a big chicken.  I don't know if I could handle it or not.  (I'm real adventurous like that.)  Seahorses are pretty amazing.
3. On a scale of 1-10, how comfortable are you in and around the water? (1=not at all, 10=very) Do you know how to swim and if so how and when did you learn?
I'd say about a 5.  My mom made sure that we all took swimming lessons when we were little.  I think it was a way to make sure she had a few peaceful hours during the summer when we were out of the house at the pool.  Growing up, we also spent quite a few summer Sundays in the mountains playing in the river.  We didn't have air conditioning, so that was a way to get everybody out of the house and doing something cool.  Maybe one of the reasons I'm not real comfortable around water is that my parents stressed the danger of swimming in the river, with the undertows.
I'm amazed that my 2 oldest boys are so comfortable around the water.  OS is spending his weekends as a river raft guide at a river that has been used for the Olympics.  And, he's able to keep his head in an emergency situation:  he saved someone from drowning last weekend.

*okay, I'm cheating.  After reading a few posts, I feel like I need to defend my "5" rating!  I'm a 10 in a pool, but as far as going waaay out in the ocean, or being on a boat (even in a lake), or swimming in the river in the mountains, I'm a "5".  There.  I feel much better now!)

4. What's something you do to motivate yourself to tick an item off your to-do list?
Gosh, I just make myself do it.  If it's something around the house, I'll put on some loud music and go!
5. What makes a good neighbor? Are you a good neighbor?
I'd like to think I'm a good neighbor.  I would hope that my neighbors know they can call on me when/if they need me.  I definitely know what a bad neighbor is...we had one of those in a previous place where we lived.  I could tell horror stories...

6. Who loads the dishwasher at your house? Is there a right way and a wrong way?
Ha, ha, ha!  Is this a real question???  There's definitely a right and wrong way to load the dishwasher.  Having said that, guess who loads it.
7. You know it's summer when_________________________.
School's out!  Even though we get out in mid-May, it's summer!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Some of you participated in Weekend Wrap-Up with A Defined Life.  This is a great way to get ready for a new week, and not have to wonder about how you're going to fit everything that you did during the weekend in one post without boring everybody to tears.  Take pictures over the weekend, and post them.  You can use words, or not.   It doesn't matter what kind of camera you use...no judging there!  If you didn't participate this week, please think about it for Monday.  Either way, please help Stephani out and spread the word!

  3. I'm a lot like you regarding pool vs ocean, etc. I love the beach and the ocean, but the deepest I'll go out is water up to my ankles.

I enjoyed participating in the Weekend Wrap-up. Often times, my weekends are so boring that I had a hard time coming up with enough blog fodder to make a good post ... pictures always make even the boring a little more exciting. I'll just have to remember to keep my camera nearby! ;-)

  4. I'm so often my own worst enemy because I often take things and people too seriously! As for swimming--I took swimming lessons for about a year and a half when I was a child. After that time, I had only learned to float. They took me to the deep end of the pool and told me to jump in. When I refused, they told my mom she was wasting her money!

  5. I'm so glad your OS saved a life. It really is amazing how fast things can go bad. Love Sea Horses as well, so pretty. If I could figure out how to have a salt water tank, I would have several but those tanks take special care.

  6. I don't like very deep water--the kind that I can't see to the bottom. I don't know what's down there and I'm not about to find out. LOL I'm the same way on #6! I hope you're enjoying your summer vacation!

  7. As you know hubs is a fish. At work he is known as aqualung because when they were on a reward trip someplace he was down with the divers without a tank. He got certified in the Persian Gulf which he said was a little scary.

Hoping to link up to weekend wrap up on Monday... Our anniversary is Saturday and we have plans in the city if his back is up to it! He has the long India flight home on Friday.

  8. A lifeguard once saved me and my two children from drowning in the ocean. I wanted to kiss him smack on the lips and
pay his college tuition for 4 years. I am soooooooooo thankful for the skill and bravery of people who risk it all to save others.

  9. I can talk myself out of things too. Then I often regret it. River raft guide sounds like fun. I haven't been out in the ocean much but I know my number would go down too. I enjoyed doing the Weekend Wrap-Up, thanks for the suggestion.

  12. How great that your OS was able to save someone! You must be very proud I know I would be :)
And you just go do it if you have something to do? Wow I am so impressed because I would say I do that about 80% of the time but sometimes it just is not happening :)

  13. Sea horses are pretty cool. One of my favorite things about them is that the MALE has the children!

    Music makes everything better.

  14. So tell me.....just who DOES load the dishwasher? [kidding] You're like me...if there is a to do list...get it done by making yourself. I know what you mean about horror stories with neighbors [ like us, with a rental house next door...let's just say, drugs...loud...messy]

  15. Ok...I'm starting to feel that I rated myself too high on the swimming thing. I think it's wonderful, by the way, that your son got his certification through a school class. What a neat way to apply lessons from the classroom to real life!

  16. So good to connect with you Mary! Thanks for stopping by.

I think the good neighbor question got lots of interesting answers today. Think we all know what a bad neighbor is for sure.

So sweet of you to give a "shout out" for sweet Stephani. I need to participate in her Weekend Wrap Up.

    Happy rest of the week!

  17. I'm probably like you, in a pool I would count myself higher than in a lake or anywhere else.

I agree the weekend wrap-up was a lot of fun!! I hope a lot more will join in this week.

  18. I love the pool and ocean. I just don't like going under the water. Major phobia of mine.

Very, very cool that you son got his certification!
