100th Day...or Is It?

There seems to be some confusion between my 2 schools as to the actual 100th day of school.  One of my schools celebrated the milestone on Monday.  The other one is celebrating it today.  If you have a youngster, you know how important this day is to a Kindergartner.  Yeah, I don't really get it either, but apparently it's a BIG deal.
One of the activities that the students must participate in is some kind of project using 100 objects.  The school that is celebrating today had some really creative projects.  Here are some pictures:
Obviously the student did this one by himself...or did he?
This one was a bit of a surprise...this is one of my student's project.  Nice touch to put the stars on black poster board!
These next 2 are my favorites:
(Love the 3D effect!)
Did you do something cool with your child on his/her 100th day of school in Kindergarten?
*  Update on my friend:  when she went to the doctor this morning....they heard a heartbeat!  It's the power of prayer, ladies!  No doubt!

  1. Mary - your friend's news just gives me chills! My favorite clause in the Bible is, "But God . . . " Will keep praying!

Our schools do 100 day celebrations by linking it to service projects. One year asked the kids to bring a pair of clean men's socks for the homeless shelter. Another year they asked for new men's gloves. Each year they got well over 100 items, and it was fun for the kids to count them (and educational, but don't tell them)

Maybe next year they can try to collect 100 cans of food . . .

  2. The elementary school where I tutor celebrated the 100th day on Tuesday. It really is a big deal for the kindergarten kids--has been since mine were there! And I don't know why either...LOL

  6. My daughter's 1st grade class did the 100 day thing, too, only it kept getting pushed back because of the snow. Since she had two personal days this week, for doctor appointments, she was afraid she would miss it, but it was yesterday, and she said they had so much fun. I don't rememebr the details, but I do remember her saying they ate 100 things!

  8. I'm sure everyone is confused by the snow days, delays, etc. When I taught kindergarten I enjoyed the 100 day activities. I don't know how the parents felt about it : )

  16. Wow thanks for sharing! Gorgeous! I don't have any kids and I have never heard of this before. Back in the day lol... when I was a kid they didn't have anything like this around. At least not that I can remember.

  18. So, that's what the 100 object is about. A mother asked for suggestions on the recycle/reuse e-mail group I'm on. What to do with 100 items intrigued me, but I did think what an unwieldly project for Kindergartners. Not knowing any better, I suggested that her daughter get 100 toothpicks and paint them. She said she wanted something a bit more like a friend's daughter used 100 pasta shells to make a picture. How fun! I want to do something with 100 things now. :-)
