Star-Spangled Hodgepodge

Another Wednesday already??? This summer is going by way too fast! I"m amazed that Joyce is still keeping this going, even with being momentarily "homeless"!

1. On Saturday July 4th America celebrates her Independence. (If you're not American,  feel free to answer in terms of a national holiday in your own country) What is your favorite thing about the day? Your favorite food on the 4th? Do you fly a flag at your house? Fireworks-yay or nay? Any special plans this year?
My brother & SIL usually have a get-together at their house since they have a pool. Since the Small Town does their fireworks the weekend before (I don't know why), so there are no fireworks to see. I'm not a huge fan of fireworks...once you see them over the National Mall, nothing else compares.
We're going to miss the family 4th this year...we'll be spending it with friends.

2. What's something you recently got for free?
I just signed up for Kindle Unlimited's free month. The only think I've found I don't like about it is that you can't use Amazon Prime to get a free book...you can only borrow it. At least, I haven't figured out how to do it.

3.  The Statue of Liberty, The Liberty Bell, The Washington Monument, or Mount Rushmore...how many on the list have you seen? What is your favorite historical American monument, and why?
I've seen the Statue of Liberty & The Washington Monument. We thought about going to Mt. Rushmore this summer but decided to wait until CH has another week of vacation so we can take our time. The Washington Monument is so simple, yet so bold. It definitely makes a statement.

4. When it comes to the news are you more ostrich (stick my head in the sand) or hog (they have room to take a whole lot in)? How much attention have you given the recent news reports regarding ISIS and the acts of terror they've perpetrated against those who do not share their beliefs or support their cause?
I'm not quite an ostrich, but definitely not a hog. I'm aware of it, but I'm not going to get all caught up in it.

5. We're talking plain ice cream...vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry? Choose one.
Chocolate. Unless it's vanilla with Magic Shell on it.

6. Share a song you love containing the word 'stars' in the lyrics or title?

The Star Spangled Banner (DUUUUH!  No brainer!)

7. Describe and/or say goodbye to June with an acrostic
Juicy watermelon (a summer favorite)

Unmotivated to do the usual summer things (like cleaning closets)
Not ready for June to end (because that means break is over half-way over)
Enjoyed being lazy, getting caught up on shows,  and reading

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I wasn't going to participate this week because I took my laptop into the Geek Squad yesterday. It was working okay, but if I tried to stream video through Chromecast, play games on FB, or just watch videos on the laptop, it would shut down. Without any kind of notice, it was just shut down. CH thought maybe it just needed to be blown out, but when I took it, the "agent" said that he blew it out and there wasn't that much in it. I figured they would just have it a couple of hours, but he said it would be a couple of days. There's no way I can use my tablet to blog, so I thought I'd just see if I could use  CH's laptop. But then I remembered I had both of my work laptops at home! YAY!
I usually don't use my work stuff at home for personal stuff, but I felt like I needed to make an exception this time!
I figured out how to make a "favicon" yesterday. You know, the little picture that shows up instead of the blogger symbol on the tab. It took a while for it to show up, but it's there today! And it was so easy to make!!!

  1. I like your acrostic - can see why you wouldn't want June to end but hope you have a good 4th July.

  2. I totally agree and relate to your acrostic. I don't like the year rushing by like this. All too soon, school will begin and then the holidays. :-(

  3. I'm feel the same way about not wanting June to end. The closer we get to the school year, the sadder I get. I have so much enjoyed this summer so far and I hate that school is going to start and mess it all up. Though I do appreciate the paycheck. Small though it is. LOL My tablet just stopped working all of a sudden. The darn thing won't turn on. I'm hoping my SIL can figure out the problem. Have a wonderful 4th!

  4. I wish I knew how to blog from my iPad. I can visit other blogs, but I can't post to mine because it won't upload photos for some reason. Never even heard of a favicon.

Glad you were able to figure out a way to join The Hodgepodge today :)

  6. That must have been awesome to see those fireworks! Sounds like it will be a fun time at your brothers. We have been thinking about getting Amazon Prime, not sure yet. Yes that is one excellent song! Enjoy your acrostic. Yay for the extra laptop at home.

  7. My, how we have become so dependent on our technology! I agree with you - hours away from the internet is a challenge. Days? Impossible!

  8. I didn't even know Magic Shell still existed :)

  9. I agree about the internet thing! I don't know how i lived the first 15 years without it, kids now are always on their devices, it is a little ridiculous though!
I like your acrostic! Have a happy 4th!!

  10. Magic Shell! I haven't had that in forever, but we used to love it. We'd like to do a big road trip west while the newlyweds are living on that side of the country. Maybe drive one way and fly back? Haven't figured it out yet, but we have a couple of years to make it work. Enjoy the 4th! Odd to have the fireworks the week before, especially when the 4th is on a Saturday.

  14. I know exactly how you feel-when June ends school begins--it seems that way, don't it? Well, I am retiring in December so...Yeah for Me!

  15. Oh, computer problems are just the worse and they ought to let us know that they are about to go out. :o)) I'm so thankful that I have a computer man that is readily available. Happy 4th!
