Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. February 22nd is National Be Humble Day...what makes you proud? What keeps you humble?
Watching my kids doing something they love makes me very proud.  I get humbled every single day.  I don't think God lets me get too humble, because it seems like something is always putting me back in my place!

2. Where is the catch-all (aka dumping ground) in your house?
The kitchen table.  Or the desk in the kitchen area where the pc used to be, because the stuff gets moved from the table to the desk.

3. Do you make it a point to visit State/National Parks when you travel or even in your own hometown? What's your favorite?
I don't get to the National Park as often as I should, especially since there's one in the same county where I live.  Of course the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is my favorite!

4. How would you define honor?
Being selfless, noble, humble, honest.  Those things would make a person honorable.  I'm sure I've left something else, but I'm writing this in kind of a hurry since CH had my laptop last night, playing some tank game!

5. Angel's food or Devil's food-which cake do you prefer?
Devils Food = Chocolate.  'Nuff said.

6. What's the most recent road trip you've taken? Where did you go and how many hours did you spend in the car? Do you like to zoom to your destination without stopping or leisurely wind your way there with stops along the way? What is your car snack of choice?
The most recent road trip was last weekend to the university where YS attended the band clinic.  It took us about 1 1/2 hours to get there, but we crossed into central time, so we gained an hour.  No stops for us!  We zoomed down the interstate to get to the town the uni is in!  No one had snacks going down.  Most times I don't have a snack with me in the car; usually just water.

7. Recent headlines told how a preschool child in NC had their packed lunch from home taken away and a school lunch substituted by a school inspector who deemed the homemade lunch unhealthy. Reportedly the parent was then billed for the school lunch (chicken nugget meal) although an update to the story says the parent was not billed. The inspector was conducting a routine inspection of the classroom-he/she was not there solely to peek in the lunchboxes. The packed lunch contained a turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple juice box, a bag of chips, and a banana. You can read the story here. Your thoughts?
My thought:  Thank you, Michelle Obama.  From what I understand, the child didn't even eat the lunch that was put in front of him/her.  This is absolutely ridiculous.  The government is now telling us what we can eat???  Scary stuff.  And I'd better just stop right here.  :)

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Sunday afternoon, CH & I went to a local restaurant to meet Joyce, her hubs, daughter2, and her in-laws for lunch.  As an added bonus, one of her hubs' classmates was also there!  Just in case you didn't read Joyce's post yesterday, her hubs & I went to the same high school and were in the band together, although he graduated with my sister, Tina.  I was also in the band with his 2 brothers, and his sister graduated with one of my younger brothers.  Her MIL was our "band mom".  AND, Joyce, her hubs, and I all went to the same university; her hubs was in the fraternity that was next door to the fraternity where I was a little sister, and Joyce & I took classes in the same department.
At any given time, there were at least 3 different conversations going at the same time (her in-laws also had some friends join us).   We had a great time catching up, and 3 hours passed like a drop of a hat!  Yes, we stayed in the restaurant for that long, but we kept an eye on the door to make sure we weren't keeping the waitress from making money!

It was a wonderful way to spend a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon!

  4. How awesome that you got to meet up with Joyce ... it's such a small world, isn't it?

If we take a short road trip, we don't take snacks along. But since most of our road trips are *at least* 12+ hours (to the Low Country or to southern Florida), we take snacks. And of course my Diet Coke! ha!
